Bad Axe woman killed in crash along M-53 Tuesday

(LAMOTTE TOWNSHIP) -- Troopers from the Caro State Police Post say a 49-year old Bad Axe woman was killed in a two vehicle crash on M-53 north of Richards Road in Sanilac County's Lamotte Township Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. Troopers say an Art Van Furniture delivery van was traveling south on M-53 when it lost control on the snow covered roadway and struck a northbound Chevy Trailblazer. Both vehicles ended up in the east ditch along M-53. The driver of the Trailblazer, Paula Lynn Eckstein, formerly of Lennon, Michigan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, 38-year old Gerald Pelch, Jr. of Flint was transported to Marlette Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. His passenger, 29-year old Phillip Rose of Burton was not injured. Authorities say that all of the occupants were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
