Declining enrollment forces CPS Schools to make tough decisions

(CARSONVILLE-PORT SANILAC) -- Carsonville-Port Sanilac Schools Superintendent Ann Binienda presented a list of cost savings recommendations to the school board last Wednesday for consideration. The recommendations are the result of declining enrollment at the district. Superintendent Binienda proposes a 5% reduction in across the board expense items, adjusting the Great Start Readiness Program teaching position, reducing the staff by four positions, reviewing the Athletic Director and Schedule B positions and transportation fees. The board was asked to take the recommendations into consideration and a discussion will be held at the March 20 meeting. Currently, Superintendent Binienda serves as he Athletic Director at no cost to the district. In other business, Principals Week was February 10-16 and the board and Superintendent Binienda commended High School Principal Scott Bular, Elementary Principal Jennifer Richmond, and Alternative Education Coordinator Russ Clark by passing a resolution in their honor.
