(BUEL TOWNSHIP) -- Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies say an Avoca man escaped serious injury late Tuesday after walking into a downed Detroit Edison transmission line. 22-year old Dennis Reaume was traveling west on Aitken Road near Kilgore just prior to 10 p.m. when he swerved to miss a deer, lost control of the vehicle on the icy gravel road and struck the power pole causing it to break at the bottom and fall over. Deputies say Reaume managed to get out of the vehicle in the dark, foggy conditions. As he made his way to the road, he walked into the downed power line. Reaume refused treatment at the scene for injuries related to the power line exposure. The Applegate Fire Department and Croswell EMS assisted at the scene. Officials remind motorists that if they are involved in an accident where there are downed power lines, remain inside your vehicle and call for help immediately.
