Tuscola County Sheriff Lee Teschendorf on Snowmobile Safety

(AREA) -- Snow enthusiasts are enjoying the winter conditions and chilly weather throughout the state. Tuscola County Sheriff Lee Teschendorf reminds snowmobile riders to take extra precautions on the new fallen snow and to stay off of the ice. Some helpful tips to practice when heading out on the trails include wearing insulated boots and protective clothing including a helmet, gloves and eye protection, never ride alone, be alert to avoid fences and low strung wires, keep headlights and taillights on at all times and never operate snowmobiles on railroad tracks. Sheriff Teschendorf stresses that snowmobilers must abide by the same regulations as drivers. Be cautious at intersections and don't drink and drive.
