(TUSCOLA COUNTY) -- As bridge replacement work over the Quanicassee River continues just east of the county line in Tuscola, county road officials are reporting a surge in traffic on Old State Road. Although traffic is detoured, too many motorists are taking a shorter route, opting to use the local road instead. MDOT officials strongly urge motorists to used the posted detour, which reroutes traffic to M-15 in Bay City, then to M-138 to M-24 and back to M-25 in Unionville. Work on the $4.2 million project is on schedule. Crews have removed the old bridge and are working to lay the foundation for the new one. The construction project started in late November last year and is expected to be completed in mid June.
