The Caro Middle School was put into lockdown Thursday morning after a student’s father made threats to kill another student and her parents.

Caro Police and their associated school resource officer were made aware of the threats, which were made over a previous grievance that happened a year ago. Once officers Robert Gasier and Ryan Avery were informed of the threats, they issued a secure-in-place at all Caro schools around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 16.

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office was called in to conduct further investigation, as the father lived outside of Caro and out of the city police’s jurisdiction. While officers attempted to locate the father, he arrived at Caro Middle School just before 11:00 a.m., which prompted the secure-in-place order to change to a lockdown order.

The suspect was detained and taken in for questioning around 11:35 a.m., with no weapons found on his person. He was lodged at the Tuscola County Jail with further investigation to be completed by the sheriff’s office in conjunction with Tuscola County Prosecutor Mark Reene.

Classes resumed shortly after the lockdown ended.
