Sandusky Wolves girls basketball team ends a great season with Tuesday loss

The Sandusky Wolves girls basketball team came up short and lost to Madison Heights Bishop Foley 34 – 32 Tuesday night. 

Early on Bishop led 9-7 at the end of the first period. Sandusky came back taking the lead 15-9 in the middle of the 2nd period, but turnovers by Sandusky & tough defense by Bishop Foley cut the deficit at halftime to 15-13 lead for Sandusky.  Bishop Foley took the lead in the third period, however Sandusky battled back and came within one point 21-20 at the end of the period. The Lady Wolves were down 26-20 at the 7:00 mark in the 4th  – but continued to nip away, coming within 28-27 at the 2:50 mark in the 4th period and again with two points 32-30 with 1:20 to go.  Bishop Foley got a key steal and made some free throws to maintain a slim lead to get the win. 

Leading scorers in the loss for Sandusky was Grace Guibord with 12 points, Helena Long with 9 & Morgan Tagee with six points.  Alyssa Samartino led Madison Heights Bishop Foley with 19 points. Overall it was a great season for Sandusky as they won their first Regional Championship last week – their first since 1999, and Sandusky Coach Al Demott also became the all time most winningest coach for high school girls basketball in the state of Michigan with 813 all time wins.
