A rollover crash in Kenockee Township left a thirteen-year-old girl dead yesterday.

The St. Clair County Sheriff Department reports that rescue and emergency crews were dispatched around 4:15 a.m. Sunday morning to Duce and Beard roads for a single-vehicle crash. It was determined that the driver, a 16-year-old girl, had swerved to avoid a deer, losing control in the process.

The vehicle rolled over, ejecting the 13-year-old passenger, who was not wearing her seatbelt at the time. She later died of her injuries. The driver and two other passengers, both 15-year-old boys, sustained only minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
