Croswell- Lexington Schools are down another board of education trustee following trustee Nathan Butler resigning last Friday, and are calling all qualified and interested candidates in the Cros-Lex school district to apply by this Friday.

Butler is resigning so as to give his full-time job as a Detroit firefighter the attention it needs, saying he could no longer devote the needed time to the role. He insists that, though the timing of his leaving coincides with the leaving of Superintendent Dan Gilbertson and former board secretary Joe Vitale, it is not because “it’s bad there,” saying in a Times Herald interview that, “It’s a great district in great hands.”

All applicants to the board of education need to apply via a letter of interest and the Board of Education Applicant Questionnaire to board president, Katie Gordon, by 3:00 p.m. on July 1. The board will discuss candidates during open session at the July 11th special meeting, with a majority vote at the following meeting on Monday, July 18, at 7:00 p.m. If the vacancy remains unfilled after thirty days, the Board of the Sanilac Intermediate School District will fill the positions by appointment. The person who is appointed to fill the vacancy will do so until the November 8 election, when the newly elected being sworn in to finish the remainder of the position’s term.

The news comes after last Tuesday’s announcement by Joe Vitale of his July 1 resignation from the board, given his move to Port Huron and out of district.
