Racers, media preps for weekend’s Grand Prix race



Ahead of this weekend’s races and Sunday’s Grand Prix, Sanilac Broadcasting Photographer Bob Benko was on the scene Thursday, June 2, for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix’s racer and media luncheon. Meeting drivers, coaches and organizers alike, Mr. Benko was able to hear from those behind the scenes who make the major racing event happen.

The luncheon was held a day before the track opened for a weekend of events, starting with Comerica Bank’s Free Prix Day on Friday, June 3, which features several practice sessions before some qualifier races, and finishes off with live entertainment with The Verve Pipe from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, June 4 kicks off with more morning qualifiers and practices, with the first race for the USA Masters Endurance Legends starting at 10:25 a.m.  With plenty of autograph sessions and another race at 3:10 p.m. before the night closes with JR JR as live entertainment at 5:30 p.m., attendees have plenty to keep them busy and excited for…

Sunday, Grand Prix Day! Gates open at 7:30 a.m. with the first race of the day starting at 11:00 a.m. Keeping the fans busy before the prix will be plenty of live entertainment at noon and again at 1:30 p.m., and then it’s a ready-set-go for the Prix drivers at 3:30 p.m., with the green flag estimated to be waving at 3:45 p.m.
