Marysville Teacher Heads to Sex Trial

Steve Rogers, the Marysville school teacher alleged to have sexually assaulted a student, heads to trial next Tuesday, May 24.

Rogers, a tenured teacher at the school, was accused of groping a student in May or June of 2021 in a locker room. His plea hearing next Tuesday involves one charge of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct, and is for two different criminal cases that he is facing. If convicted of the first charge, he faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison or a $500 fine.

He is also charged with distributing sexually explicit material, third-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and criminal sexual conduct assault with intent to commit penetration, all of which will be handled between two separate trials for the two victims involved. If convicted during those trials, Rogers faces a maximum of life in prison.

Currently, he is on administrative leave from Marysville Schools, as Rogers’ tenure prevents him from being fired without a tenure hearing, a process that is being held off until after criminal proceedings.
