Marlette Alumni Awarded for Writing

Marlette native and Saginaw Valley State University student Matthew Chappel has been awarded by the university with two prizes for excellence in writing.

Chappel, who has been a dean’s or president list mainstay since beginning at SVSU, had been nominated by his professors for the Tyner Prize, which has three categories– fiction, poetry and nonfiction– in which to recognize the best student writing of that particular academic year. By taking home the prize in poetry and creative nonfiction, Chappel has earned himself $200 and two plaques.

This isn’t the first distinction Chappel has earned himself at the university, having presented at the college’s research symposium on his experience in the Roberts Fellowship, a highly competetive program the college has for student leaders.
