Fatal accident claims life of Brown City man; woman injured

A Sanilac County man sustained fatal injuries in an accident involving a horse and buggy and a motor vehicle Tuesday evening.

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, Central Dispatch received the 9-1-1 call reporting a motor vehicle had rear-ended an Amish buggy on Shephard Road near Stimson Road in Maple Valley Township.

Deputies along with Brown City police and fire and Marlette EMS all responded to the scene.

Deputies say a 45-year-old female from Peck was northbound on Shephard Road in a 1998 Ford Expedition when she rear-ended an Amish buggy traveling in the same direction.

The Amish buggy had a 46-year-old male and female from Brown City onboard.

The 46-year-old Brown City male was pronounced dead on scene while the 46-year-old Brown City female was transported to Marlette Regional Hospital by Marlette EMS and later transferred to the Trauma Center at Flint Hurley for further treatment.

The horse had to be put down, due to extensive injuries.

Police are not releasing names of the victims while the accident remains under investigation.
