(AREA) – Schools across southeast Michigan have been receiving what police called a “tidal wave” of copy-cat threats via social media, in light of Tuesday’s shootings in the Oxford school district.

As a result, all schools in Oakland, Genesee and Tuscola counties have closed for the day Friday.

Additionally, a number of schools in Macomb County, including Memphis and Armada, along with the Capac school district in St. Clair County have cancelled classes “out of an abundance of caution” according to school officials.

In a letter to residents in the district, Capac Superintendent Jeff Terpenning said the school was taking a “mental health” day Friday, due to various threats, along with students and staff trying to deal with the tragic Oxford school shooting.

Imlay City schools in Lapeer County were also closed.

In Sanilac County, Sheriff Paul Rich said additional resources, including County and local patrol units would be visible at county schools Friday morning.

The Peck police car was in the school parking lot Friday morning while in Sandusky, both local and county police vehicles were in parking lots at the two school buildings.

A 15-year old Oxford sophomore was taken in to custody minutes after he allegedly discharged at least 30 shots from a semi-automatic handgun and is accused of killing four students and injuring seven others, including one teacher.
