(SANILAC COUNTY) – The Oxford mass shooting at the high school took another tragic turn Wednesday morning when officials announced a fourth student, a 17-year old male, passed away from injuries sustained in the shootings.

Investigators now say more than 30 shots were fired in just a five minute span in the school killing or injuring 12 people. 15-year old Ethan Crumbley, a sophomore at Oxford, is facing multiple charges including terrorism and first-degree murder.

He was arraigned in Oakland County Court Wednesday afternoon.

In response to the situation in Oxford, Sanilac County Sheriff Paul Rich said his department took no additional action and stated he hoped they did not need to.

Sheriff Rich said, ” At this time, we have not done any more then our day to day visibility. I have spoken to some school officials and let them know we can if they would like to.”

The Sheriff said he felt it is, “a double edge sword- does it call attention to the incident and increase anxiety or not ? With social media, when people see increase patrols after an incident, they develop their own stories sometimes.

Sandusky Superintendent Paul Flynn said the district, “did not take any additional precautions on campus.” He added, “We continue to work through our everyday protocol. This incident has given us cause to review our training, practices, and plans.”

During a press conference Wednesday, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the department learned Crumbley had a meeting with school officials regarding discipline issues, just two hours prior to the shooting incident.

Following his arraignment, Crumbley was ordered transferred to the Oakland County Jail until his next court appearance.
