Lapeer school was locked down – active shooter at Oxford High School

3:15 p.m. TUESDAY UPDATE: During a press conference near the scene, the Oakland County Undersheriff said three students are confirmed dead and six others, including a teacher, have been injured. Investigators did not give the ages and conditions of those that survived the attack. Police say the attack happened shortly after 12 noon and multiple shots were fired from a handgun. The suspect did not resist being placed into custody and police recovered a handgun from the alleged suspect, a 15-year old Oxford sophomore. More information is expected at a 5 p.m. briefing.
Oxford High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon because of an emergency situation at the school. According to an alert sent out to Oxford parents, an active emergency was reported at the school and, causing the school to activate their emergency protocols, putting the school into lockdown. Oxford Community Schools confirmed the lockdown.
A suspect has been taken into custody and a handgun was recovered. The sheriff said there was only one shooter. Police say between four and six victims were reported and there were not any confirmed fatalities, as of 1:30 p.m.
According to an alert sent out to Oxford parents, an active emergency has been reported at the school and it has gone into emergency protocols and put the school into lockdown. Oxford Community Schools confirms the lockdown. The alert sent to parents urged them not to come to the school at this time.
Multiple units responded to the scene including SWAT and the aviation unit and multiple law enforcement agencies.
In a related move, in a letter to parents, Lapeer Public School officials notified parents that out of an abundance of caution, all of Lapeer schools were put in a lockdown with students and staff remaining in district buildings.
Lapeer officials say there is no danger to anyone in their district, but the action was taken due to the on-going situation in Oxford, as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
