Communities planning projects with ARPA funding

(SANILAC COUNTY) – Along with County officials working on a plan on how to best spend their American Rescue Plan Act stimulus, cities, townships and villages throughout Sanilac County are also finishing plans on how best to utilize their ARPA payments.

While the County itself received $8 million dollars, other entities in the county are sharing $4.3 million in payments and must have final plans in place within four years and have the funding spent within six years.

Payments are made by sending half of the total amount this year and the second half payment next year.

Among those in the County receiving additional revenue Worth Township who is taking in $380,000 dollars while Lexington Township will take in $247,000 dollars.

The City of Sandusky will receive $263,000 dollars. City Manager Dave Faber said council has decided to bank the money for now before developing a plan of action for the revenue.

The City of Croswell will take in $239,000 dollars, the City of Marlette receives $184,000 dollars and Brown City will take in $130,000 dollars. Buel Township will be receiving $127,000 dollars and Marlette Township will take in $172,000 dollars.

Brown City Manager Clint Holmes, who has been with the city for more than 20 years, says council has decided to use their funding for meeting Lead and Copper requirements, doing repairs on a two-block section of Second Street that will affect around 11 homes and cost approximately $165,000 dollars.

The project is currently out for engineering requests for proposals.
