Crashes in Sanilac County keep deputies busy

(SANILAC COUNTY) – Traffic was snarled following a two-vehicle accident in Sanilac County’s Speaker Township Saturday afternoon. Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call reporting a two-vehicle personal injury traffic crash on Brockway Road near Town Hall Road in Speaker Township around 1 p.m. Deputies along with the Speaker Township Fire Department and units from Marlette and Tri-Hospital EMS responded to the scene.

According to Deputies a 57-year-old male and his 53-year-old female passenger, both from Greenwood were traveling south on Brockway Rd in a 1992 Dodge pickup. A 2006 Ford Escape driven by a 23-year-old Yale woman was traveling north and turned in front of the pickup. Deputies say the two vehicles collided with the Dodge landing in the roadway while the Ford went into the west ditch.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured while his female passenger was treated on scene by Marlette EMS and then transported to Port Huron McLaren for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford was treated on scene by Tri-Hospital EMS and transported to Port Huron McLaren for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash and all subjects were wearing seatbelts.

 

A Sanilac County man sustained injuries in a one-vehicle rollover accident in Sanilac County’s Elmer Township Friday morning. According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, the single vehicle personal injury accident occurred on Juhl Road near Miller Road in Elmer Township shortly after 11 a.m. Deputies along with Moore Township Fire and Sanilac EMS were responded to the scene.

Deputies say a 46-year-old Applegate man was traveling north on Juhl Rd. when he lost control of his 2006 GMC box truck. The vehicle entered the east ditch of Juhl Road and continued to travel north until it struck a driveway embankment, causing the truck to become airborne over the embankment and landing in the ditch. The driver of the vehicle was transported to McKenzie Health System for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say alcohol was not a factor in the crash and a seatbelt was being worn by the driver.

 

Two people sustained injuries in a one-vehicle crash in Sanilac County’s Bridgehampton Township early Sunday morning. Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call around 3 a.m. Sunday reporting a single-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of Ruth Road and Sanilac Road.

Deputies along with the Carsonville Fire Department and Sanilac EMS were responded to the scene and discovered a 2021 Kia, driven by a 55-year-old Sandusky female, was going south on Ruth Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at Sanilac Road, due to heavy fog. Deputies say the vehicle continued across both lanes of Sanilac Road entered a deep ditch on the south side of M-46.

Both the driver, along with her 31-year-old Sandusky passenger had to be extricated from the with the Carsonville Fire Department’s Jaws of Life. The driver was transported by Sanilac EMS to McLaren Port Huron Hospital while the passenger was transported by Sanilac EMS to McKenzie Health System for treatment of her injuries.

Deputies say both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash that remains under investigation.
