Deckerville schools address upcoming school year

Deckerville school officials have sent the following letter to parents of students throughout the district. The district joins Sandusky and Peck for Sanilac County schools not requiring face masks in order to attend classes:
Dear Deckerville Community Schools Community,
As we near the beginning of another school year, it is important for parents and students to know what to expect in regard to the ongoing COVID pandemic.
Last year, Deckerville Community Schools worked hard to provide a safe learning environment while continuing with face to face learning as much as possible. This year will be no different.
We remain committed to maintaining an educational setting that is as close to “normal” as possible. However, we will continue with sensible, non-intrusive measures to protect our staff and students such as encouraging high standards of cleanliness, frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer, and regular disinfection of classrooms and buses. We will also continue to use Google Classroom and Chromebooks to maintain instructional continuity in case of student or staff member quarantining.
At this time, Deckerville Community Schools will not require staff or students to wear masks unless otherwise mandated by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services or the Sanilac County Health Department. We also will not screen for illness unless a student appears symptomatic. Vaccinations for COVID-19 will not be required for attendance of school.
Parents who choose to have their children wear masks may continue to do so, and we will make disposable masks available for those who wish to use them. These will be located in the school offices.
Please remember that the situation of this pandemic is ongoing and subject to change at any time. As throughout last school year, any modifications to our COVID-19 response will be posted in a timely fashion on our website, live feed, and Facebook page. Deckerville Community Schools will abide by any mandates or requirements from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Sanilac County Health Department, and the Michigan High School Athletics Association.
Please also remember to monitor the health of your children and keep them home at the first sign of illness. We hope to have one of the healthiest school years ever!
Thank you for your continued support of Deckerville Community Schools.
