Jet skiers head to Lake Huron for fundraiser

(THUMB REGION) – The 30th annual Water Warriors personal watercraft endurance ride along Michigan’s Thumb Coast to benefit Special Olympics of Michigan is getting set to take to the cool waters of Lake Huron.

Due to lingering affects of the COVID pandemic, the group has scaled back from their usual Port Huron to Mackinaw ride, typically a 5-day, 450-mile endurance ride on personal watercraft.

They have since adapted this year’s ride to make it a two-day ride will take place on July 28 – 29th.

Organizers say around 75 people are planning to take part, with more than 30 personal watercraft riders, support boats, and an army of land support vehicles.

The 2021 Summer Games for Special Olympics concluded on July 17th.

Water Warrior officials say funding raised from the ride will go to help athletes continue their year-round training for future events with Special Olympics in Michigan.

Since the inception of the Water Warrior ride, more than three million dollars has been raised to benefit Special Olympics.
