(HURON COUNTY) – One person was killed and a second critically injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident in Huron County Tuesday evening.

Around 11 p.m., the Huron County Sheriff Department and multiple other agencies responded to the area of M-53 and Rapson Road in Colfax Township after receiving a report in the crash.

According to Sheriff Kelly Hanson, preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle going north on M-53 with two male occupants lost control and overturned several times.

According to investigators, a 22-year old occupant was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene from his injuries.

The other occupant, a 23-year old male, was transported to McLaren Thumb by Central Huron EMS and later flown out by helicopter with life threatening injuries.

Sheriff Hanson says speed and alcohol likely played a part in the fatal accident and it is unknown who was driving the vehicle.

Both men were reportedly staying in Port Austin and are from out of state. The crash remains under investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were Elkton EMS, Bad Axe and Kinde Area fire departments and the Bad Axe police department.
