Peck schools not requiring face masks or vaccinations

Below is a letter from Peck Community Schools Superintendent Bill Kerr, regarding the upcoming school year and requirements regarding COVID-19.

(PEC) – July 16th, 2021

Dear Parents of Peck Community Schools Students,

As we prepare for the approaching school year it is important for parents and students to understand what the upcoming school year will look like. While last year was difficult, we are proud of the fact that we were able to remain open and deliver face-to-face instruction for our students for the majority of the school year. We are excited to welcome students back to school in the fall on Tuesday, August 31st at 8 am.

As of now, Peck Community Schools will not require students and staff to wear masks or face coverings. We will not be screening students for illness and COVID-19 vaccination will not be a requirement for attendance in our buildings.  We believe it is important for parents to know that they will have the choice if they would like their child to wear a mask or not while attending school. As always, parents must do their best to monitor their children’s health and keep them home if they are not feeling well.

Currently, there are no mandates/regulations set forth by the CDC and MDHHS, however, it is being recommended that students under the age of 12, and any unvaccinated student or staff member wear a mask in the building. Please be aware that Peck Community Schools will follow all mandates set forth by the Department of Education and MDHHS as well as MHSAA regarding athletics.  As of today, we are uncertain if there will be mandates regarding quarantines and what those procedures will be.

While we will offer an online option if required to do so, it will look much different this year. Our top priority is to have all students back in the classroom and learning face-to-face.  If you have questions regarding your options this year, please contact the Superintendent’s office to set up an appointment.

Sincerely,

Bill Kerr

Superintendent
