32 dogs seized; St. Clair Animal Control hosting adopt event

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – A St. Clair County woman has pled no contest to two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

According to St. Clair County Animal Control, Pamela Smith, DVM made the plea June 10th.

She was ordered to forfeit 32 dogs, all Labrador retrievers and pay $104,000 dollars in restitution with sentencing scheduled for August.

A search warrant was served on July 14 of last year after authorities received multiple complaints of an unlicensed kennel with the labs living in deplorable conditions.

The woman was arrested and the dogs were rescued and sent to agencies that gave them physicals and health care needs.

The dogs have been cared for since the case was turned over to police, for the past 329 days.

A special adoption weekend is planned for June 26th and 27th at the Animal Control Center on Griswold Road where 15 of the labs, chocolate, black and yellow, will be available.
