(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – A formal official with a church on Port Huron’s southside is facing a charge of embezzlement of $100,000 or more after police said other church representatives discovered tens of thousands of dollars missing.
Donell Moore, 70, was arraigned on the embezzlement charge last Thursday.
The former treasurer at Faith Christian Community Church currently resides in Georgia and remains released on a $10,000 bond.
Police say the church believes they are missing around $115,000 dollars over a seven year period.
Port Huron police stated the amount includes several transactions from the church’s debit card made at Motor City Casino as well as several Detroit ATM withdrawals varying from $100 to $2,000, as well as other monthly ATM withdrawals.
The last withdrawal was reportedly made in December 2020 with alleged fraudulent activity discovered in February.
A warrant for Moore was issued May 25 and according to court records, he stood mute at last week’s arraignment and has a probable cause hearing set for June 22.
Additionally, according to a police report, Moore told authorities he used the debit card instead of taking a salary because he had wage garnishments owed to debtors.
