(AREA) – Huron County authorities believe an electrical problem may have been the cause of a fire that destroyed a 37 foot boat Monday night in Sand Point.

The fire turned in to a three-alarm blaze that brought firefighters from Caseville, Winsor Township and Harbor Beach to the scene.

Booms were put in the water to contain any leaking fuel while Hazmat teams removed a small amount of contaminants from the fire.

Officials worked to safely remove 200 gallons of fuel onboard the boat that was engulfed in flames near the engine compartment.

Fire officials say the estimated amount of loss could be in excess of $100 thousand dollars.

After the fire was extinguished, another boat was able to tow the burned vessel to a nearby Marina where the burnt boat was removed and placed on a trailer.

Firefighters remained on scene for over five hours with no injuries reported.
