Brown City man charged as result of crash

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) -A Brown City man has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly causing a March 7th crash that killed another man.

36-year old James Stanich was arraigned Sunday on charges of second-degree murder, operating while intoxicated causing death and tampering with evidence.

Stanich had a warrant issued for his arrest late last week, following an investigation and toxicology reports and is being held without bond.

According to investigators, around 10 p.m. March 7th, Stanich was allegedly traveling the wrong direction in a 2015 Chevrolet pickup on eastbound I-69, east of the M-19 overpass in Emmett Township, when police say he struck a 2019 Dodge Challenger head-on.

The collision forced the Challenger into the path of an eastbound 2008 Honda Accord, resulting in a second collision, according to the sheriff department.

Police say the driver of the Challenger, 30-year-old Graham Wiltse of Sterling Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stanich is due back in court April 13th for a probable cause hearing.
