Port Huron apartment fire leaves one in critical condition

One person is in critical condition following a four alarm fire in Port Huron early Sunday morning. According to Port Huron Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Tucker, the fire was reported in the 800 block of Stone Street shortly before 2:15 a.m. Sunday. He adds that up to ten people were trapped inside the building, which was a house split into three separate apartments. Most residents were able to evacuate the building on their own, however police did rescue one person, who was transported to Port Huron McLaren Hospital and later to a Detroit area hospital in critical condition. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control around 4:45 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Port Huron Fire Department was assisted by fire fighters from Fort Gratiot, Marysville, and Port Huron Township fire departments, as well as the Port Huron Police Department and Tri-Hospital EMS.
