Businesses expanding; building in Marlette

(SANILAC COUNTY) – An $8.6 million dollar building project in Marlette is among the major building projects slated to highlight the landscape of Sanilac County in the new year.

An assisted living facility has received the green light to be built on the former Marlette golf course and is projected to be completed sometime in early 2022.

Although it was initially anticipated to be done by the end of 2020 or early 2021, the Marlette project is taking a bit longer to become a reality for several reasons.

The planned construction includes a main building with two wings, an assisted living wing with 20 apartments and a memory care wing with 12 apartments.

There will also be a 3,652-square-foot community center and 20 independent living villas.

Walls are expected to start going up in April with a one-year completion date for the entire project.

Construction cost are expected to be over the $8.6 million dollar mark and does not include the cost of the land, or fees for architects and a construction management firm.

Another building project slated for the Marlette area is an addition to Ben’s Great Outdoors.

Those plans are scheduled for a hearing with Marlette Township officials later this month.

Officially, the hearing is to review and consider a special land use request by Ben’s Great Outdoors.

The business is requesting approval for a 13,300-square foot retail addition along with a 50,000 square foot parking lot upgrade as well.

Ben’s Great Outdoors current store, located on S. Van Dyke Rd., covers 12,000-square feet of space.
