Sanilac County slated to receive Moderna vaccine

(SANILC COUNTY) – In what may be the best Christmas present frontline healthcare workers in Sanilac County could receive, the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine is expected to arrive some time Wednesday.

Sanilac County Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman said the county is expecting 900 doses to arrive in it’s first shipment with another 900 doses for second round vaccines to be delivered within the next 28 days.

Anyone who has the first shot administered is required to have a second dose, to receive maximum effectiveness of the vaccine.

Hillman said Sanilac County is receiving the newly approved drug from Moderna who was just given the green light to ship the vaccine last weekend.

According to Hillman, the health department will receive 200 doses while Marlette Regional Hospital and McKenzie Health Systems will receive 300 doses apiece.

Deckerville Community hospital will be given 100 doses.

After seeing a significant spike in numbers for the past two months, Hillman said officials are seeing a steady decline in number of cases and deaths.

He said the county’s positivity rate has dropped from as high as 17% down to 9% with trends continuing downward.
