Bad Axe Walmart closing for cleaning

(HURON COUNTY) – Officials from Walmart Headquarters have announced the WalMart Supercenter in Bad Axe will be closing temporarily for cleaning and sanitizing.

In a press release, authorities said the store, located on North Van Dyke, will close at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) as part of a company-initiated program to allow third party cleaning crews time to thoroughly clean and sanitize the building.

The location will remain closed through tomorrow, December 10, providing associates time to restock shelves and prep the store to reopen on Friday, December 11 at 7a.m.

Walmart’s place within the community is considered essential, in providing customers with food, medicine and other needed items during this time.

A company spokesperson said everything they are doing is for the well-being of associates and customers, and in consideration of guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and health experts.

When the store reopens Friday, the store will continue conducting associate health screens and temperature checks, and all associates will be provided with facemasks and gloves.

Company officials did not say if any employees, or how many, may have tested positive for COVID.
