Daily COVID numbers escalating in the Thumb

Health officials across the region are growing more and more concernedwith the rampant spread of COVID-19.

In Sanilac County, health officials are now reporting 846 cases and 16 deaths since the start of the pandemic. In the past 60 days, Sanilac County reports a spike of 700 cases.

Sanilac County Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman said while there are a lot of opinions as to why the numbers continue to escalate, there is no one cause and it’s just an overall spike in cases, as was expected this fall and winter.

Huron County is reporting 694 cases and 15 deaths while Tuscola County has 1,648 cases, and 57 deaths since the start of the virus earlier this year.

Lapeer County now has over 2,300 cases, and 53 deaths and St. Clair County officials have reported more than 4,100 cases and 97 deaths.

Statewide, officials are reporting over 366,000 cases since the virus started and more than 9,300 deaths.
