Barna, age 59 of Clyde Township, is a pathologist affiliated with multiple hospitals in the Blue Water area, and was a contracted employee of McLaren Port Huron. He was arraigned Thursday on two charges, including Explosive Violation — Vulnerable Target (health facility), which is a 20 year felony, and Explosive — sending with intent to fright, a five year felony. Port Huron Police responded to McLaren Port Huron Hospital last Wednesday around 3:45 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple incendiary devices going off inside trash cans in the hospital. Police confirmed that there were no injuries and no damage, however the explosions caused a loud sound that frightened and terrorized patients and staff. Authorities have collected evidence and will be sending samples to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab to identify the substance used to cause the small explosions. Authorities are releasing no further information at this time, as the incident remains under investigation.
