Suspect arrested after multiple explosions at Port Huron hospital

Local law enforcement and officials at McLaren Port Huron are investigating “a loud disruption that was heard in many departments within the hospital” after “incendiary devices” detonated Wednesday afternoon. According to a letter that McLaren Port Huron President and CEO Eric Cecava sent to employees Thursday detailing the incident, an individual entered the hospital at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and placed the devices in three trash cans. Since the incident, Port Huron Police Capt. Marcy Kuehn said a suspect has been identified and arrested on “a variety of explosive charges.” Police say they do not know what the devices were, but do know it was not C4, gunpowder or a similar device. Hospital officials say no one was injured, no patient care was interrupted and there was no damage to the hospital. Many employees and others in the hospital said the incident caused a loud sound that frightened and terrorized staff inside the hospital. Authorities say after being interviewed, the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Clair County jail. The suspect is a 59-year-old man from Clyde Township who had not been arraigned on charges as of Thursday night.
