A 40-year old St. Clair County woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident in Sanilac County’s Washington Township early Sunday morning.
According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, deputies responded to the intersection of Ruth Road and M-46 around 6 a.m. after receiving reports of a crash.
Investigators say the woman, from Lynn Township near Yale, was traveling south on Ruth Road, north of M-46, in a Ford Fusion when she failed to stop at the stop sight and continued south.
The woman drove her vehicle into a deep ditch near the intersection, sustaining fatal injuries.
Deputies say the vehicle’s airbags did deploy and they believe she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Authorities are not releasing the victim’s name pending further investigation.
Deputies were assisted by the Carsonville fire department, Sanilac EMS and the Sanilac County Medical Examiner’s Office.
