Peck woman dies in hit and run accident

UPDATED TUESDAY OCT. 20TH 10:25 A.M: Michigan State Police continue to investigate a fatal traffic accident in Sanilac County over the weekend. Troopers are seeking the public’s help in the incident that took place in Peck Sunday afternoon.

MSP Troopers responded to downtown Peck Sunday around 3 p.m. in the area of Elk and Lapeer Streets after a 911 call was made reporting an elderly woman in the roadway.

Troopers found 77-year-old Mary Ann Longuski critically injured and determined she had been struck by a vehicle. MSP Lt. Lizabeth Rich has confirmed the suspect in the case, a 30-year old Peck man, was the one who originally called 911 to report the incident.

Lt. Rich said the man was arrested Sunday evening and released on Monday, pending further investigation. Longuski was transported to a local hospital where she later passed away.

The investigation into this incident continues and Lt. Rich said if anyone witnessed this incident, or has further information, they are asked to contact Troopers at the Caro Post.
