Thumb area election results

Lisa McClain has defeated Shane Hernandez by more than 6,000 votes to win the Republican nomination for the 10th Congressional District Representative. McClain will now face Democratic winner Kimberly Bizon, who defeated Kelly Nolan by just over 5,000 votes. In all, McClain received 41.72% of the vote to Hernandez’s 36.37%. Bizon earned 53.76% of the votes and Nolan 46.24%. The winner of the November election will replace incumbent Paul Mitchell (R), who decided not to run for re-election. In the race for U.S. Senate, John James easily defeated Gary Peters in the Thumb area, winning by wide margins in Huron, Sanilac and St. Clair counties.

Road millage proposals produced positive results all through the listening area, including Sanilac County where all road millages issues passed as well as a fire protection request fdor Austin and Greenleaf Townships. Huron County voters also approved several road millages.

In Lapeer County, unofficial election results of Tuesday’s primary election show attorney John Miller defeating incumbent Lapeer County Prosecutor Michael Sharkey by 2,313 votes – 9,775 to 7,462. Miller will now head to the November 3rd General Election as the only name on the ballot. Barring a successful write-in campaign, Miller is the presumptive winner of the general election and will be sworn in as Lapeer County’s top law enforcement officer in January 2021.

Also advancing to the General Election to decide the judge’s race for the 40th Circuit Court in Lapeer are seated Judge Byron Konschuh and Lapeer County Friend of the Court Mike Hodges who garnered the most votes in a three-way race with Lapeer attorney Catherine Bostick. Hodges earned 8,659 votes; Konschuh, 6,232 while Bostick narrowly trailed with 6,115 votes
