Two vehicle crash injures seven; one fatality

(HURON COUNTY) – Seven people were involved in a two-vehicle fatal crash in Huron County Sunday evening.

According to investigators, one person was killed and several others seriously injured in the 5:30 p.m. crash at the intersection of Sebewaing and Bay Port roads.

Police say investigation showed a northbound vehicle on Bay Port Road, driven by 35-year old Ashley Horetski of Port Austin, failed to stop and struck a west bound vehicle on Sebewaing Road, killing the driver of the west bound vehicle, 58-year old Gerald Steinbis of Bad Axe.

Horetski had three children in her vehicle, ages 7, 11 and 15 while Steinbis had two other passengers in his vehicle, his wife, 48-year old Beverly Steinbis and 27-year old Justion Ackerman.

According to Sheriff Kelly Hanson, all victims were taken to Scheurer Hospital of Pigeon by multiple EMS units.

All but one were eventually flown by helicopter or taken by ambulance to out of county hospitals. The roadway was closed for investigation, reopening after 9 p.m.

Other agencies assisting were Sebewaing Police, Fire and Ambulance, Owendale Fire, Scheurer Ambulance, Elkton EMS, ACW Ambulance, Central Huron Ambulance and the Huron County Road Commission.

The accident remains under investigation.
