Two injured in Sanilac County crash

(SANILAC COUNTY) – A two-vehicle crash in Sanilac County late Friday sent two people to the hospital.

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, emergency responders were called to the intersection of Custer and Davis Roads, in Custer Township, shortly after 5 p.m.

Authorities say a 2015 Chevy pickup driven by a 72-year-old Sandusky man was traveling south on Davis Road approaching the stop sign and failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

A 41-year-old Applegate man was traveling east on Custer Road in a 2004 Kia Sedona and collided with the Sandusky man.

Deputies say the 72-year-old man was not wearing his seatbelt and his airbags did deploy while the 41-year-old man was not wearing his seatbelt and his airbags did not deploy.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

Both men were taken to McKenzie Hospital by Sanilac EMS and later transferred to Saginaw Covenant by Lifenet and Flight Care helicopters.

Deputies were assisted by the Sandusky Fire Department.
