Diver in cardiac arrest revived

(SANILAC COUNTY) – Quick action by a Good Samaratin is being credited with reviving a diver in distress.

According to the Port Sanilac Fire Department, rescue personnel were called to the harbor around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon and discovered the victim to be in cardiac arrest.

The Good Samaratin had helped pull the diver to shore and was holding him out of the water when help arrived.

Fire Rescue personnel and members of the Sanilac County Sheriff Department’s Marine Patrol administered CPR until EMS arrived.

The patient regained a pulse and was breathing on his own at the scene, according to fire authorities.

The man was taken to McKenzie Health System for treatment before being flown by helicopter to Saginaw Covenant Hospital for further treatment.

Fire department personnel say without the quick action by the Good Samaritan and others, the outcome may not have been as positive.
