Construction accident sends man to hospital

Tuscola County deputies responded to a property property accident near Harmon Lake Rd in Dayton township Sunday morning shortly before noon.

Investigators say s 48-year old Sterling Heights man was doing construction on his property when an article of clothing became entangled in a ground auger attached to the tractor’s PTO, amputating the man’s leg.

A friend that was nearby assisting with the job quickly shut off the tractor, applied a tourniquet, and called 911.

The male subject was flown to Hurley Hospital for trauma care and is currently in ICU unit.

Investigators say the quick actions of his friend providing lifesaving treatment immediately, saved the man’s life.

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mayville Ambulance, Kingston and Mayville fire departments and Flight-care.
