Good news with Sanilac County COVID-19 test results

Testing for the COVID-19 virus continues in Sanilac County and officials are hoping the results keep trending as they have at the onset of drive-thru testing. During the weekly teleconference between County officials and local media Monday afternoon, Health Department officials say 77 people took advantage of the newly introduced services in the county and all who were tested had negative results. Officials say this week, the drive-thru testing is equally booked as volunteers use a tent set up in the Health Department parking lot to test clients. Also in the call, Mental Health Director Will Morris said the department saw a spike in need for services as six people were hospitalized for psychiatric needs. Morris said he still anticipates a further need for services as both emergency workers and residents deal with the pandemic. County Administrator/Controller Tara Griffith said the County has some employees who have taken voluntary furlough while the need for implementing involuntary furloughs is also being considered. Sanilac County Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman said the majority of requested PPE supplies have been received with the exception of gowns. Hillman said he feels the County currently has enough PPE to handle the virus based on current numbers as well as having some on hand should there be a second wave of COVID-19 later this year.
