The affects of COVID-19 and concern for the health and safety of the general public continues to be the driving force in major events throughout the area being cancelled for the summer. Many of the events are the lifeblood of communities who rely on festival visitor’s to help boost their local economies. In Harbor Beach, officials have decided to keep their campgrounds and City Marina closed until at least the end of May.All June events have been scrapped including Bands at the Beach and the Farmer’s Market which is closed for the season. In Yale, officials have put an end to this year’s plans for the Yale Bologna Festival, ending a 30-year run of the popular event that drew tens of thousands to the small St. Clair County town to celebrate bologna. Memorial Day events for most communities have been shelved as well.
