James Young

(SANDUSKY) -Sanilac County Prosecutor, James V, Young announces that he will retire at the end of his term which concludes on at the end of the year.  Prosecutor Young who has been in office for 42 years, making him Michigan’s longest serving public prosecutor. He was recently recognized for his 40 plus years of service to the people of the state of Michigan by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Association of Michigan in august of 2019 at the association’s annual conference at Mackinaw Island.

In making the announcement, Young stated he has always been committed to representing the people of Sanilac County fairly, honestly and with integrity. He says he feels that it is time for him to step down and let someone else have the opportunity and the privilege to serve as the next prosecutor for Sanilac County.

Public service is very rewarding,  according toYoung and he urged the young people to get involved and give back to their communities. He thanked the citizen’s of Sanilac County for the opportunity and says it was an honor to serve the public, representing victims of crimes in their search for justice.

In addition to his service as Proscutor, Young has also been involved in the creation and passing of the Drug Task Force, SAVE, Sanilac County Medical Control, and Sanilac County Central Dispatch millages.

Young was chairman of the Sanilac County Building Authority which constructed the addition of the courthouse annex, Sanilac County Jail, Sanilac County Transportation building, Health Department Building and the Alzheimers Addition to the Medical Care Facility.

Among Young’s accomplishments that he was involved in includes starting the first victim rights program in the Thumb and being a founding member, and past chairman, of the Sanilac County Child Abuse and Neglect Council.

He is a founding member of the Sanilac County Drug Task Force and continuing chairman dedicated to providing funding for law enforcement drug education and drug counseling in the schools.

He is also a founding member and continuing chairman of Eva’s Place, dedicated to providing hope and opportunity to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and homelessness.

During his career, Young says he has handled everything from dogs running at large to high profile murder cases. I have been honored to represent victims of crime and present their pain and loss before the courts. I have been amazed at their strength and courage.

Prosecutor Young says the accomplishments of his office were not possible without the dedication and support of staff in his office. He said all of his staff has been dedicated, professional and committed to making a difference and he was proud and humbled by their support. Young thanked law enforcement officers in Sanilac County for their support over the years.

He plans to stay involved with the community and is looking forward to time with his family.
