Capac automotive factory closing in 2021

(MUSSEY TOWNSHIP) – After 12 years of being a source of income for hundreds of workers, word has come that Keihin Michigan Manufacturing, located near the I-69 expressway south of Capac, will be closing next year.

Factory officials made the announcement Monday during an associate meeting with all personnel.

According to a press release, Keihin North America, Inc. intends to cease operations at the Capac facility, effective February 2021.

Officials felt giving employees a one year notice allows them to find other employment.

The press release cited “sales reductions” and “dramatic changes affecting businesses in the automotive industry” as reasons for the plant’s closing.

Employees will be provided severance packages to include a “transitional” medical benefit and outplacement services. The company has also said they will assist employees in trying to find other employment.
