Three injured in head-on crash

A 33-year old Marine City man was seriously injured this morning when his vehicle stuck a Tri-Hospital EMS ambulance.

Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office responded to River Road, just north of Hathaway Road, shortly before 5:00 a.m. for a head-on crash.

Deputies observed a northbound 2003 GMC Envoy on River Road had crossed the centerline and struck the southbound ambulance. The driver and sole passenger in the Envoy had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the St. Clair Fire Department and was transported by another Tri-Hospital ambulance to River District Hospital for treatment.

Three occupants were in the ambulance, the driver, a 33-year old Macomb Township man and his 24-year old female paramedic partner who was in the rear of the unit, and a 67 year old woman from Port Huron Township who was being transported.

The EMS workers sustained minor injuries while the woman being transported told deputies she was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
