(SPEAKER TOWNSHIP) – The Sanilac County Prosecutor’s Office will not charge anyone involved in a Thanksgiving day shooting in Speaker Township.

Sanilac County Sheriff deputies responded to an alleged traffic incident involving two vehicles, each with a man and woman inside, near the intersection of Galbraith Line Road and M-19 shortly before 11 p.m. November 28th.

Authorities say the two vehicles were initially traveling in opposite directions, one a northbound pickup truck, and another a southbound car.

The southbound car was allegedly traveling in the truck’s northbound lane, causing the truck occupants to call 911 and turn around to attempt to get the license plate.

According to the Port Huron Times Herald, the Sanilac County Prosecutor’s Office made the announcement of no charges in a letter to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.

In the letter, authorities say the man inside the truck admitted to shooting the man who came from the car after he allegedly acted aggressively toward the truck and the truck’s passenger.

The Prosecutor’s Office said in the letter, in order to convict the shooter of a criminal charge, the prosecutor would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did not act in self-defense, adding, “there is enough uncertainty to create reasonable doubt.”
