Garage destroyed in Speaker Township fire

(SPEAKER TOWNSHIP) – A three-alarm blaze Tuesday evening brought fire departments from two counties together to battle flames for around two and a half hours in southern Sanilac County.

Speaker Township Fire Chief Trevor Stone said firefighters from Speaker, Elk and Brockway Townships, responded to a garage fire around 8:30 pm. on M-19, south of Wellman Line.

The Sanilac County sheriff department had M-19 closed for the duration of the incident, due to fire trucks being lined up on both sides of the road near the location of the fire on Brockway Road, between Wellman and Fisher Roads.

Chief Stone said the out-building, filled with tools and a vehicle, was completely destroyed by flames.

More than 30 firefighters poured 20,000 gallons of water on the flames, according to Stone.

No injuries were reported and cause of the fire is believed to have been a wood stove.
