Lapeer shooting suspect released from custody

A 34-year-old Lapeer man who allegedly shot and killed 33-year old Arthur Kohn, of Lapeer early Monday morning at the Clark gas station on South Main Street, has been released from custody pending further investigation. Police have been investigating the case, trying to gather enough evidence to determine what charges, if any, may be filed. Police have not identified the shooter, due to no charges being filed. Shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, a confrontation between the two men began at an entrance to the parking lot at the gas station. According to law enforcement, Kohn drove up alongside the shooter’s vehicle, exited with a crowbar in hand and opened the passenger side door of the shooter’s vehicle. A heated exchange followed, when the shooter pulled a handgun and fired at close range at Kohn, who died from his injuries a short time later.
