Lapeer man shot after a dispute

LAPEER, MI — A 33-year-old Lapeer man is dead after he was shot during a dispute at a gas station in the city, police said.

According to multiple news outlets, including Mlive.com, officers with the Lapeer Police Department were called out shortly after 7:15 a.m. Monday,  to the Clark gas station, 252 S. Main St., after a person notified an employee that a man had been shot in the parking lot.

Officers located the unresponsive man in the parking lot. Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene by Michigan State Police troopers.

Preliminary investigation by police indicates there was a dispute between the shooting victim and another man that escalated into gunfire.

A 34-year-old Lapeer man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.

An autopsy is expected to be performed by the Lapeer County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lapeer County sheriff’s deputies also assisted Lapeer police at the scene.
