Firefighters respond to house fire in Deckerville

Firefighters battled a house fire in Deckerville early Monday morning located at the corner of Black River and Ella Roads. Deckerville Fire Chief Tracy Hoff says dispatch received a call from a passerby about 2:45 a.m. reporting flames in the back portion of the home located next to Brown’s Marketplace. Hoff says he doesn’t expect the home to be a total loss, with fire damage to the back of the house and smoke damage to the rest of the home. Firefighters battled the blaze for about four hours. Nobody was home at the time of the fire. A cat in the home was able to escape to safety. Deckerville Fire Department received a full assist from the Sandusky Fire Department.
